From 128(heading north) Take exit 19 A, follow Highland Ave East into Newton where it becomes Needham St. You'll pass through two traffic lights quickly (well, depending on traffic, it may take several minutes), then drive past various shopping venues to a 3rd light (you'll see Skipjacks on your left, and there may have been a traffic light in there that I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure its only 3). At this "3rd" light, go straight (if you are confused about the number of lanes present at this intersection, you are not alone. There are often 3 lanes, two for turning left, and a third for right hand turns and going straight) and then take a left into the Howard Whitmore park shortly after the intersection. Drive to the end of the driveway. If you pre | |
From 128(heading south) Note: in anything but extremely light traffic the above directions are faster. Take exit 20A (Rt 9 EAST to BOSTON) After the first traffic light on Rt 9, look for a sign saying Centre St as the road slopes down. As the road levels the sign is on your right and if you can read it, you probably missed the turn. If you have time to react, just remember that it is a 180 degree hairpin turn into (potentially) oncoming traffic, so if you take it at more than 40 mph or so, you may regret it (Melvin will tell you otherwise, but he gets a thrill of borrowing his friends cars and testing how well the tires grip the road....) So, assuming you made the turn successfully you should see the field on your left momentarily. At this point you have two options. 1) Take a left onto Shady HIll Rd (Consult map below). Take your first right at the 4 way intersection and then right onto Dedham St. Shortly you will see the park on your right, and then the entrance (also on the right...yes, you should turn there). Proceed to the end and park. 2) At the stop sign you have to make a left turn onto Centre St, and if its rush hour, or almost any other hour for that matter, you could be sitting there for several minutes, even if you are the only car in line. But once you get onto Center St, make a left at the first traffic light and then turn left into the Horward Whitmore Park. Drive to the end of the driveway. |

From the Boston I can think of 3 options 1) Take the Pike to 128 and see above. 2) Take Rt 9, exit at Centre St. Take a left, then left at the light and left into the Howard Whitmore Jr Feild. 3) Take Beacon St to Centre St (when you get to Newton Centre, where the shops and restaurants are, take a left at the light at the far end, and follow Centre St as it forks right)(Or, if you rather, go strait at that light, and take a left at the next light (Walnut St), then take a right onto Centre St at the second light). Once on Centre St, go under Rt 9 and take a left at the light and left into the park. |

From the Boston Area by T Take the Green D line to Newton Highland (just after Newton Centre). Head south (left) on Walnut St to a Dunkin Donuts on the corner. Cross Centre street, head west (right) and follow Centre St under Rt 9. Look for the field on the left. |
